I retired a few months ago, but because I was a teacher, it's only now (on October 1st) that I feel well and truly retired. I've been out of work long enough to fully decompress from a beloved, but stressful, career, and also long enough to have picked up some good and not-so-good habits.
On the plus side, I've been pretty faithful with my home and studio yoga practice, I've picked up my reading pace, done a little knitting, engaged in some social activities in my neighborhood, and went back to practicing with a masters swim team.
On the less positive side, I've spent way too much time mindlessly scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, twitter, and Reddit: way way way too much time. Because I can't trust myself to stay off the interwebs, I've taken all the social media apps off my phone, so I'm hoping to reclaim a lot of lost time by freeing myself from the distractions in my palm.
October seems like a perfect time to make a fresh start. The days are shorter and more precious, and the nights are longer and more expansive. It's a perfect time to make choices that make every minute of daylight count, and to settle into some luxuriously long projects after the sun sets.
